My earliest involvement in business occurred over two and a half decades ago when the opportunity to buy a 33% stake in a small hairdressing business arose, today known as Schnips Hairdressing.
A decade later, I owned a 50% stake in a couple of different enterprises with approximately 80 employees; Schnips Hairdressing and a national distributor of a range of products including KMS Haircare NZ.
However, I sold out cheap and was burnt out by that stage; I did not have much of a social life, and spent too much time working. So I took 18 months off to discover what was missing in my life.
Nonetheless, after taking 18 months of work, reality hit; money does not last forever, hence, in an attempt to make some money, I brought into a very small telco with another business partner; sadly, we lost our investment due to the little knowledge we held in regards to the business world. Unfortunately, the same thing happened with the next business I brought into; video games.
Now, for your information, I did not go into these businesses with the hope of losing money, the opposite effect was expected, however, it did not occur, thus, having learnt some very valuable lessons, I returned to Schnips Hairdressing where I learnt I had yet, made another mistake; I found myself working terribly long hours once again.
So…instead of taking time off as I had in my past; I became a business advisor, coach and consultant! The reason for this was that I wanted and still want to continue to help other business owners avoid the pitfalls that I had previously found myself in at different points in my life…as a result, I now work face to face with small groups of business owners helping them with all the day to day challenges and opportunities that business life offers.
